Research Unité Fronts et Frontières
Territorially anchored research unit
Fronts et Frontières is the name of the research unit at ISBA.
Rooted in the political, cultural and geographical history of the region and of the city of Besançon, research at ISBA echoes different kinds of struggles (art, work, etc.) and the rebels who have left their mark on the territory, from Proudhon to Lip, including Charles Fourier and Gustave Courbet. It also resonates with Besançon’s cross-border situation, with a landscape marked by Jura, separating but also linking France and Switzerland.
The Fronts et Frontières research unit therefore deploy territories of thought which themselves question the borders (geographical, disciplinary, social, cultural, gender, perception, etc.) in a spirit of commitment (social, decolonial, feminist, political, ecological, etc.). It thus presents a panorama of positions and involvements that artists implement at different scales, from local to international and with different degrees of visibility.
